Philosophy of Teaching

Children learn best when they understand and recognize relevance in objectives, and are provided appropriate opportunities for self-guided discovery and mastery skills. My role as a teacher is to facilitate learning, and to align the appropriate level of challenge for each student with multi-sensory opportunities for exploration, discovery, and skill development, a teacher can establish a foundation that induces earned accomplishment – a critical component to self-esteem. By addressing learning gaps as early as possible through interventions and accommodations, students can be set up for academic success.

I strongly believe that children must feel secure in their learning environment, a secure knowledge of expectations, and confident they will be treated fairly. I work hard to establish and clearly communicate predictable daily routines, manageable procedures and expectation for quality performance. I provide chances for students to share their individual interest and present their discoveries to their peers. My learners are confident that I care for them and value them as young individuals. Everyday encouragement is given to my scholars as I demonstrate honesty, leadership, honesty, and confidence. I model respectful interactions and kindness, teaching efficient methods for collaboration, inclusive and respectful of alternative ideas and perspectives. I am passionate about hands-on inquiry based learning across content areas. I establish an environment that views learning and exploration as fun. I motivate students to examine curricular materials: to pick up each item and explore its shape, texture, and malleability. I facilitate student in formulating question, devising studies for exploration, and analyzing results. I encourage independent decision-making while guiding the learning process to promote advanced level thinking.
