ABOUT ME

I, Deshaun Harris, am a native of Houston, Texas. Since elementary school, I have attended school in Houston ISD. In 2009, I graduated from the historical Jack Yates High School and proceeded to obtain a bachelors degree in Mathematics Education from Prairie View A&M University. Since college, I have been committed to making sure that students of all ages are successful. I served as an AmeriCorps member, in affiliation with Project GRAD Houston, as a College Success Coordinator ensuring that freshman students were successful academically, mentally, and socially at their college or university. Committed to the success of those in my community, I have worked with students in the Southeast Houston area through coordinating service projects, providing tutoring, assisting with the college entrance process (including financial aid, scholarships, and grants). Continuing to grow as an educator, I participated yearly in the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Teacher Quality & Retention summer institute. Furthermore, I make it my mission to attend educational conferences such as NCTM, ITSE, and CAMT each year. Also, I have presented at conferences and district workshops over topics such as lesson planning, STEM integration, technology application, and math instructional practices. Currently, I am teacher specialist in Houston Independent School. My goal is to pursue a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and start my own scholarship fund.
